Official Site for Deck Art 2011

Since we (Christine Laikind of Firebrick Gallery and Pottery Studio and Von and Linda Gallaher of South Street Skateshop) have decided that we will continue to host Deck Art again next year and again as long as there is interest in this event, I decided to create a stand alone blog for Deck Art 2011.

Opening night was yesterday (May 20, 2011). It started at 6 pm and was in full swing not long after. We estimate we had over 200 people by the time the evening was over after 9 pm. School of Rock students provided music at both places (Firebrick Gallery and Pottery Studio and at South Street Skateshop).

Look around, check out the entrants and be sure to see who this year’s winners. Congratulations to the winners! A big heartfelt thank you goes to all the hard working participants. Thank you to the judges – we had our work cut out for us; Chase Golematis of XS Tattoos and Joe Ferry of South Street Skatepark.

Thank you to the artists who participated in the skateboard art silent auction. I know for some of you, it was a race against deadlines and other pressures. Thank you. Your support means a lot to Linda and I.

We would like to thank Boho Cupcakes for their donations ~ the tye dye cupcakes were delish! Beyond Juice -thank you for the strawberry and banana smoothies! School of Rock students – whoever you were – you guys were great! Thank you to Mary Mulkeran for the cookies! Thank you to Carolyn Johnson of Laughing Monkey for being the extra pair of eyes, arms, and legs. Thank you to Nana for your help at the gallery. I know it will be a long time before you’ll eat peanut butter again. Thank you goes to my daughter for being here and helping me hang all 46 entries, create the signs for each of the entries, and everything else I asked her to do. You made me laugh when I needed to laugh. Thank you to my husband. He’s an all around great guy.

Thank you to the Rochester DDA for their support and help in promoting this event on their facebook. Thank you to Connie Falmer of Studio 405 Photography for taking pictures of this event! It allowed us to network and meet the artists and patrons! My favorite part! I wished I could have met everyone!

Thank you, Cameron Klinzman, one of the deck artists, for volunteering to greet the visitors as they came into the door at the gallery.

Thank you to everyone who came. It was a wonderful evening!

Until then ~ stay posted for Deck Art 2012.
